These are big flashy float parades with marching bands and beaucoup throws (beads, cups, doubloons, stuffed animals, hula hoops, etc.) For Mardi Gras day I’d start with Zulu and head into the quarter in costume after to mingle with the crowds. Sunday, get on the uptown side of the quarter. Rent Bluebikes. Ride down St Charles and closer to Napoleon, find spots and hang. Bachus is the only night parade you need to see. However, in my experience I’ve noticed that Southdowns is definitely more family oriented compared to Spanish town. A G-rated experience compared with sights that involve copious amounts of booze.
