We took a cruise on Mardi Gras when it was 50% capacity and it was enjoyable. Then we took one when it was at full capacity and not just every room was booked, but supposedly every bed was booked and it sucked. All cruise long we were being pestered to eat at the “specialty dining” options, because the MDR was just too full. This was going to be our 2nd and 3rd cruise with Carnival with our only other cruise being on Norwegian. We haven't cruised Carnival since 2013 so a lot of changes have come about. Cruise : 7 Day on the Mardi Gras 7-14 May (Nassau, Amber Cove, Grand Turk). The Mardi Gras is 40% larger, and has more dining options if you like options. It also has a more upscale look/feel to it. The rooms on Mardi Gras are nice, looking, but the Magic's rooms are a bit bigger. If you want the latest and greatest, Mardi Gras is the way to go. If you want tried and true, Magic is a safe bet. On it as I write this, in a port stop at Cozumel. I’ve been on over 20 Carnival cruises and about 5 Royal Carribean, including Oasis/Allure/Symphony. The Mardis Gras blows them all away, with Oasis ships being very close. The entertainment and food is phenomenal. If you cruise for the food and drinks, Mardi Gras will not let you down. Our meal at Rudi's Sea Grill was the best dining experience I've ever had on Carnival. So many good dining options onboard is a huge plus. Shaq's Big Chicken is the best fast food at sea. Emeril's is great for New Orleans style seafood. I personally would return to the Mardi Gras eventually but am looking forward to trying a non-excel class to see if I enjoy them (Horizon next). You can always find a quiet place to be if you want one but the Lido deck is always so overwhelming I spend 0 time there which feels a bit counterintuitive as I do enjoy partying and drinking and that The two Carnival ships I have been on so far are the Mardi Gras and the Glory! I went on the Mardi Gras for New Years 2023. The elevator situation was absurd at times! Sounds like it hasn't changed much, unfortunately. That was my biggest gripe on that ship. Other than that, I had a wonderful time on it! I went on the Glory last June. It was a We are planning on sailing June 2022 for our 30th anniversary and decided last night on the Mardi Gras! We saw 2 cabins- deck 11 ( cabin 11300) and deck 14 (cabin 14333.) The deck 11 cabin is closer to the elevators and is a connecting cabin. I am kind of concerned about noise from both. It is al On June 4 th, Mardi Gras met her homeport for the first time which would be the awesome Port Canaveral, of course. So maybe you should meet it too! Port Canaveral is a great place to kick off a cruise from, especially with the beautiful, brand-new cruise terminal we built specifically to be Mardi Gras’ home. Cruise you soon, can’t wait You could have a great set of passengers get off and a set of grumpy party Karens embark. I have been on 9 Carnival cruises, and when I was on Mardi Gras in 2022 I overheard many folks saying they only wanted to cruise on XL class ships, and no other. I didn't hear any complaining. I had a fantastic cruise. However, this is my experience. I have been on both the Celebration and the Mardi Gras. They are basically identical minus some of the theme areas. The Mardi Gras has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme while the Celebration is Miami/Art Deco. The biggest difference in venues is two of the bars on deck six. They have different themes and drinks on the two ships. Getting ready to book a Valentine’s Day trip for my Bf and me , and I was looking at the Celebration or Mardi Gras for our 7 day trip. This is his first cruise and my fourth (all carnival) obviously my first time on either ship but I’m leaning towards Celebration however I’m still undecided even tho they are VERY similar I think the destinations that Celebration offers is better for this This will be the largest Carnival Ship I have been on. (I have been on 7 cruises in the past) The Mardi Gras has over 2500 rooms with occupancy at or above 6500 passengers. Overall, I don't know if your experience will be much different on Mardi Gras. The layout is totally different, but it's the same kind of experience overall. It'd be different if you were talking about Carnival's older ships for booze cruises, but the Vista should provide similar levels of service, options, and class as the Mardi Gras. So I went on the Mardi Gras back in 2022 and now have it booked again for September 2024. I haven't kept up with any updates on it, but when we first went on it, all the dining options except for the Steakhouse, Seafood, and Hibachi place were free of charge for lunch and dinner. Welcome to r/Tacoma, The Subreddit of Destiny. Much like the city, this forum is a dusty old jewel of Puget Sound. Some spend all day talking about how gritty it is, others simply think this is where trucks were invented, but Tacoma is a beautiful city filled with art, food, beer, music, nature and people. Hey Carnival friends! My husband and I are planning a cruise and we want to try out Mardi Gras next January. Other football fans like us will know that this is peak playoffs time. We love SkyBox on the other ships but unfortunately, Mardi Gras does not have the SkyBox bar. I was on the Mardi Gras in April and loved having a balcony. Among the other reasons listed already, it's nice to have a balcony to people watch when you are coming back to your room on port days. Carnival's balcony prices are still very reasonable when compared to RC. What they want for an ocean view balcony is outrageously expensive. It had been a few years since I had cruised Carnival and there were some changes or issues that I am wondering if it is just this boat or the cruise line. Being a Gold, almost Platinum, VIFP I typically am used to things. We used to get a complimentary cocktail near the end of the cruise, a carnival pin and a free 1.5 liter bottle of water.
