The Mardi Gras still has our vote as best Carnival Ship, Crew and Food. We have 26 Carnival Cruises and 35 overall with all lines. I prefer the Mardi Gras tower. I ask for one with a balcony, higher floor, and farthest from carnival court. The rooms are "refurbished", small but nice. I like to be able to open the slider, and overlook the pool. I also like the elevator for Mardi GRAS drops you right in the casino, the other one is in the check-in lobby.
