PALM RESTAURANT (Main Dining Room) The Palm Restaurant, the ship’s primary dining venue, can be found on Decks 6 and 7, and its name comes from those decks. The upscale but never stuffy setting is complemented by a dinner menu that features multiple courses and is updated daily. Since Carnival first introduced their Excel-class ships when Mardi Gras debuted in 2021, guests have been confused about the specialty dining policy. Carnival made a lot of waves when they said they’d be offering three specialty restaurants complimentary for dinner during the “inaugural season” or Mardi Gras. While Cucina del Capitano is normally an Italian specialty restaurant on Carnival with an extra charge of $18 for dinner ($6 for kids), on the Mardi Gras, it’s complimentary! Carnival has setup Chibang, Cucina Del Capitano, and Guy's Pig & Anchor Smokehouse as alternative venues to the main dining room on Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and Carnival Jubilee. T he time that guests are allowed to eat in these venues for free during dinner depends on which dinner dining assignment guests have. Free Specialty Restaurants on Carnival Mardi Gras. A trio of specialty restaurants onboard Mardi Gras are being made complimentary for a "limited time," with no word from the line as to when that Cucina Del Capitano on the Mardi Gras works differently than some of Carnival's older ships as on the Mardi Gras this is considered an alternative to the main dining room. Guests on Mardi Gras can dine one complimentary time in Cucina Del Capitano and then each additional visit costs extra ($8 per person at the time of writing). So I went on the Mardi Gras back in 2022 and now have it booked again for September 2024. I haven't kept up with any updates on it, but when we first went on it, all the dining options except for the Steakhouse, Seafood, and Hibachi place were free of charge for lunch and dinner. The dining on the Mardi Gras is starting to look more like Norwegian’s free-style dining concept. For the first cruises, guests on the Mardi Gras have a lot of choices, and they could easily eat at a different venue each breakfast and evening and never pay a dime extra. When we sailed on MG last May, the Italian restaurant (cucina del capitano), chibang and Guys pig and anchor were all free for dinner, with free filet mignon the first night at pig and anchor. On March 9th, Carnival Brand Ambassador posted to his Facebook page the following: "If you'll be sailing on Carnival Mardi Gras, just more confirmation that Carnival does not plan to charge for ChiBang, Cuccina del Capitano, and Guys Pig and Anchor."
