On June 4, 2021, Mardi Gras was for the first time LNG-refueled in the USA - at Port Canaveral's new CT3 (Carnival Cruise Terminal 3). The ship's bunkering took ~8 hours and was conducted by the new fueling barge Q-LNG 4000 (ship-to-ship ATB / articulated tug and bunker barge). Try a newer ship on a different line. Like less than 5 years old. Royal, Norwegian, Celebrity. Hell even Carnival’s flagship, the Mardi Gras. Cruising is very much similar to other industries where you pay for what you get. A $10000 cruise is a different breed than a $2000 one and a $400 one, and so on. Marine engines are true "dual fuel" engines, that can run on any mixture of liquid fuel (from diesel to heavy fuel) and LNG from 100% liquid to 95% LNG. Note that these engines cannot run on straight LNG, since LNG has too high an auto-ignition temperature, and requires spark ignition which marine diesels don't have. Take a tour of the engine room on the Carnival Cruise Line Mardi Gras. This was a media tour during the ship's first paid sailing. Also be sure to watch the Frost covers part of the LNG fuel system on Carnival's Mardi Gras. (Photo courtesy of Carnival Cruise Line) One of the biggest offenders has been Carnival Corp., the company that operates several popular brands, such as Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line and Cunard Line -- all of which have been guilty of one or more of the above. When Carnival Corp. announced that it was delaying this year’s delivery of the Carnival Mardi Gras, it had a familiar ring. We had a very cool tour (video coming later) of the engine control room and the engine room itself, led by Richard Pruitt, Carnival’s vice president of environmental operations. We had a very cool tour (video coming later) of the engine control room and the engine room itself, led by Richard Pruitt, Carnival’s vice president of environmental operations. He explained how the ships engines run on Liquified Natural Gas, which is cleaner and therefore better for the environment. Mardi Gras’ refueling process took nearly eight hours via a new fueling barge, called the Q-LNG 4000, that delivered enough LNG to power the vessel’s four engines for approximately 14 days. Carnival’s Mardi Gras is the first cruise ship in North America to be powered by Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). Since arriving to much fanfare at Port Canaveral, Florida on Friday, Mardi Gras received her first refueling, while she was berthed at her home at the brand-new Terminal 3. MEET THE CEREMONY. We kick off a new ship’s career with a naming ceremony and ours are one part tradition and a lotta parts fun! On the tradition end, we get dignitaries like Mardi Gras' godmother, Miss Dominican Republic Kimberly Jiménez, and our own Chief Fun Officer Shaq to help make sure the champagne bottle gets broken just right for good luck. And if you decided to book Mardi Gras for your next vacation, there may be some rooms that are better than others. Of course, there aren’t necessarily ‘bad’ rooms on the Carnival Mardi Gras, but depending on your personal preference, some will definitely be better than others. Couples49 % I went on Mardi Gras 3 weeks ago. My wife, two young kids and me. I sailed a lot as a kid (mostly Carnival but also RC and NCL) so on the MG I went platinum. It helped a lot with the lines for embarkation, guest services and disembarking. However, you’re right on. It’s quite crowded and the elevators are too small. Both the ships were smaller relative to the Mardi Gras. The included food options available on Mardi Gras were above and beyond what we expected. The bigger the ship though, the more people. There are trade offs. Carnival is more about activities and having fun than being a quiet ship. There are areas that are adult only that help mitigate if Join us for our full ship tour of the Carnival Mardi Gras. We recently sailed on this beautiful ship, and had an incredible time.
