I went on Mardi Gras 3 weeks ago. My wife, two young kids and me. I sailed a lot as a kid (mostly Carnival but also RC and NCL) so on the MG I went platinum. It helped a lot with the lines for embarkation, guest services and disembarking. However, you’re right on. It’s quite crowded and the elevators are too small. If you cruise for the food and drinks, Mardi Gras will not let you down. Our meal at Rudi's Sea Grill was the best dining experience I've ever had on Carnival. So many good dining options onboard is a huge plus. Shaq's Big Chicken is the best fast food at sea. Emeril's is great for New Orleans style seafood. Both the ships were smaller relative to the Mardi Gras. The included food options available on Mardi Gras were above and beyond what we expected. The bigger the ship though, the more people. There are trade offs. Carnival is more about activities and having fun than being a quiet ship. There are areas that are adult only that help mitigate if About Carnival Mardi Gras Mardi Gras, launched in 2021, is a groundbreaking Excel-class ship that redefines the cruising experience with its innovative features and diverse amenities. With a gross tonnage of 180,800 and a guest capacity ranging from 5,282 to 6,338 passengers, it offers ample space for relaxation and entertainment. We love the Cuchina and book it at least twice on our cruises. I disagree that the food tastes "weird" or "funny". It's so much better than a chain like Olive Garden that has really bland food. Oh well, food is always very subjective to personal tastes. Mardi Gras refers to events of the Carnival celebration leading up to the Christian period called Lent. A direct contrast to Lent's self-reflective, sacrificing feel, Mardi Gras celebrates the joy of life through music, revelry, and most importantly, food. Carnival has always given cruisers a variety of Lido deck venues, but Mardi Gras spoils you for choice -- and most are not only complimentary, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Cajun Jambalaya at Grace by Nia. ROBIN WINCHELL 2023. At Grace by Nia in Boston, indulge in a dish full of blackened jumbo shrimp, beef sausage, roasted chicken, crawfish, long grain rice According to 16th-century etymology, the word “carnival”—carne (meat) de levare (take away)—entails a farewell to meat. No wonder this period, leading up to Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is a free fall of deep-fried treats, from sugar-sprinkled fritters to beignets stuffed with locally grown vegetables. This year’s Mardi Gras, a.k.a. Fat Tuesday, is celebrated March 4. “Mardi Gras is an imported Catholic custom, a religious tradition celebrating the last day of an indulgent Carnival season So I went on the Mardi Gras back in 2022 and now have it booked again for September 2024. I haven't kept up with any updates on it, but when we first went on it, all the dining options except for the Steakhouse, Seafood, and Hibachi place were free of charge for lunch and dinner. Getting ready to book a Valentine’s Day trip for my Bf and me , and I was looking at the Celebration or Mardi Gras for our 7 day trip. This is his first cruise and my fourth (all carnival) obviously my first time on either ship but I’m leaning towards Celebration however I’m still undecided even tho they are VERY similar I think the destinations that Celebration offers is better for this It doesn't say which boat is which in the pictures, but I would go with the 7 day cruise from Port Canaveral assuming they are similarly priced. I haven't been on Mardi Gras but people have nothing but good things to say about the newer Carnival ships like Mardi Gras/Celebration. The ports on the 7 day are much better. The stuff on Carnival's no-pack list that you might want to bring like a little baby food blender, or premade foods from home, the lady or gentleman checking you in at the x-ray machine will likely let it through if you say, "but it's for the baby". Im going on Mardi Gras next February. Really looking forward to it. When we sailed on Mariner of the Seas at the start of the month, Mardi Gras was leaving Port Canaveral at the same time. Everyone in our group was jealous, though mostly because of the roller coaster. The roller coast looks cool, but im not excited about spending $15/ride. The last time I went on carnival was in 2018 and we honestly liked the food better than RC at the time. We haven’t been on a cruise since but have one booked for next month on carnival horizon. I heard some things have changed like no free room service? And food quality is really bad. Overall, I don't know if your experience will be much different on Mardi Gras. The layout is totally different, but it's the same kind of experience overall. It'd be different if you were talking about Carnival's older ships for booze cruises, but the Vista should provide similar levels of service, options, and class as the Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras is shiny and new and on an entirely new level for Carnival. The itinerary is definitely not amazing. I love Cozumel. But Mahogany Bay was not a great spot. Just a beach with abysmal food and shopping options. I’d probably still pick the Mardi Gras even with that, though. I’m a sucker for a shiny mega ship. Mardi Gras and her sister Celebration have a few more free food options than every ship older than them. Both companies ships usually have free slides and flowrider surfing. Many of Royal ships also have things like zip lines, laser tag, bumper cars, carousel, ice skating for free as well as a couple of options that are free some days and paid They have way more Mardi Gras ahead of them, you don't need to give them the beads from the limited number of Mardi Gras years left in your future. The peer pressure cringe. When one person gives the throws they catch to kids then people around them feel bad for not doing the same so then they also give the kids more throws.
