About Carnival Mardi Gras Mardi Gras, launched in 2021, is a groundbreaking Excel-class ship that redefines the cruising experience with its innovative features and diverse amenities. With a gross tonnage of 180,800 and a guest capacity ranging from 5,282 to 6,338 passengers, it offers ample space for relaxation and entertainment. Cucina Del Capitano on the Mardi Gras works differently than some of Carnival's older ships as on the Mardi Gras this is considered an alternative to the main dining room. Guests on Mardi Gras can dine one complimentary time in Cucina Del Capitano and then each additional visit costs extra ($8 per person at the time of writing). (For a limited time during the inaugural season on Mardi Gras, you’ll have your choice of complimentary dining at specialty restaurants Cucina del Capitano, Chibang! and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Free Restaurants on Carnival Mardi Gras. Carnival has always given cruisers a variety of Lido deck venues, but Mardi Gras spoils you for choice -- and most are not only complimentary, they are ChiBang! is a new restaurant, first featured on Carnival Mardi Gras, serving as a replacement for Ji Ji's asian restaurant found on some other ships in the fleet. ChiBang! is a unique concept restaurant that offers a mix of Mexican and Chinese food. This is not a fusion menu, but instead two distinct menus which allow you to mix and match. While Cucina del Capitano is normally an Italian specialty restaurant on Carnival with an extra charge of $18 for dinner ($6 for kids), on the Mardi Gras, it’s complimentary! Carnival Mardi Gras dining provides cruisers with a mouthwatering blend of exciting new dining options and perennial cruise line favorites. Passengers can taste authentic bayou flavors at Emeril’s Bistro 1396, Emeril Lagasse’s first-ever restaurant at sea, or enjoy a tableside performance at Bonsai Teppanyaki. ChiBang is both a complimentary and specialty restaurant. Though all visits on Carnival Jubilee are included, if you're sailing on Carnival Celebration or Mardi Gras and wish to dine at ChiBang twice, you'll have to pay $8 for every additional visit. Cucina del Capitano Lido Marketplace Since Carnival first introduced their Excel-class ships when Mardi Gras debuted in 2021, guests have been confused about the specialty dining policy. Carnival made a lot of waves when they said they’d be offering three specialty restaurants complimentary for dinner during the “inaugural season” or Mardi Gras. The official policy for Cucina del Capitano and ChiBang for Mardi Gras and Celebration is currently that the first time at either restaurant is free, each additional time would be $8 a person. (For Jubilee, there is no up charge for the inaugural season). Carnival Mardi Gras Overview.
