Compared to the Carnival Mardi Gras, the Wonder of the Seas is 31% larger in terms of overall tons. as has been said i'm sure many times, it's actually such a shame carnival didn't go forward with their ambitious pinnacle project in the mid-2000s when they had a design that would put their stamp on the industry, well before the oasis class debuted. if only they pushed forward and we all could've maybe had 5-6 Mardi Gras ships out there by now The Mardi Gras has a construction date of 2020 and a total size of 180,800 gross tons. Both ships have seven day itineraries from Port Canaveral. Both are big, 20. Carnival Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras' arrival at Port Canaveral, June 2021 (Photo: Carnival) Carnival Mardi Gras first debuted in 1972 and was a trailblazing ship. Its preliminary focus was on Water slides on both ships were great. Wonder has 3 "main" pools in the middle area, and the adult only area in the very front of the ship is leaps and bounds ahead of Celebration/Mardi Gras. Without knowing what itineraries you're looking at, I will say Royal's island (Coco Cay) is amazing. Nothing on Celebration/Mardi Gras compared to it. I went on the Mardi Gras Last year and my wife has been on the Wonder of the Seas and the Mardi Gras. They're different experiences (from what my wife said). The Wonder of the Seas is a boat about the big stuff. big shows, big dinners, big crowds. The Mardi Gras is set up to be a lot more like cruising a downtown at night. Both ships are Royal Caribbean’s and Carnival’s newest ships so both will be expensive. The Wonder Of The Seas is currently the largest cruise passenger ship in the world. Be ready for crowds on both ships. If your younger and like a lot of action I would pick the Mardi Gras. Ship Size. The Mardi Gras is considered a large size ship. Maybe it's b/c of how much I've sailed Oasis class, but Mardi Gras is more exciting to me. I love the "many small venues vs a few large ones" approach. Lots of variety, really innovative design, and Carnival definitely doing some very different things. The Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas is a fairly new ship, being built in 2024. The Utopia of the Seas is the first Oasis-class ship to run on LNG, a cleaner burning fuel. It's 3 years newer than the Mardi Gras, which was built in 2021. Mardi Gras definitely has the better itinerary, but I would personally pick the Oasis over the Mardi Gras in terms of the ship itself. As a disclaimer, I've only been on one of the Oasis' sister ships, the Symphony of the Seas, and haven't been on the new Carnival ships. Ship Size. The Mardi Gras is considered a large size ship. I haven't been on any of the Carnival ships so cannot comment on what they are like. I recently got off the Wonder of the Seas though and I am confident if you chose an Oasis class ship for your cruise you and the kids wont be disappointed. Loads to do for kids and adults alike.
