Number of Passengers. Carnival Magic holds 30% fewer passengers than the Mardi Gras based on double occupancy (two people per room). When you look at the "Space Ratio," or tons of ship compared to number of passengers, the Magic has the same amount of space per person as the Mardi Gras. The Carnival Mardi Gras has a total of 6 pools and 7 hot tubs. 2 of the pools are exclusive access, which means there's either an extra charge to access them or you need to book a certain class of cabin to have access to them. Carnival Magic has fewer pools than the Mardi Gras and more hot tubs. 8-day Carnival Magic from Norfolk, VA, itinerary includes Half Moon Cay, Amber Cove, and Grand Turk. I like the extra day and *love* the itinerary. I don't like that Serenity doesn't have a pool, as I spent a big chunk of my time there. Other option is 7-day Mardi Gras leaving from Port Canaveral, going to Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Mahogany Bay. Which trip would you pick and more importantly why spring break. Family of 4 (kids are 7 and 9) experience cruisers but not since covid magic- 8 day- San Juan, st kitts, st marten, grand turk mardi Gras- 7 day- San Juan, amber cove, grand turk We know it’s spring break so it will be crowded but Second place for Carnival Mardi Gras, the flagship for the XL Class. The Mardi Gras is 40% larger, and has more dining options if you like options. It also has a more upscale look/feel to it. The rooms on Mardi Gras are nice,looking, but the Magic's rooms are a bit bigger. If you want the latest and greatest, Mardi Gras is the way to go. If you want tried and true, Magic is a safe bet. Our now first cruise will be on the Mardi Gras (July hopefully). We are booking a replacement cruise for our canceled first cruises from July, August, November, and now March. Our only options within affordability are the Carnival Magic or NCL Encore. We are seriously considering Magic because we can get a balcony vs interior only on other cruises.
