The Carnival Mardi Gras has 3 fewer bars than the MSC Seascape. The Mardi Gras has 16 bars like Fortune Teller Bar, Piano Bar 88 and The Brass Magnolia. On Mardi Gras, you can grab a drink at 19 different bars such as Chef's Court Cocktail Bar, Le Cabaret Rouge and Sports Bar. The MSC Seascape has a New York City-inspired theme complete with a 10-foot-fall replica of the Statue of Liberty at the heart of the casino and shopping area called Times Square. It's 1 year newer than the Mardi Gras, which was built in 2021. The Mardi Gras pays homage to Carnival's first ship, also named the Mardi Gras. When it comes to value, anyone searching for cruises is likely to run across two lines that offer some of the least expensive trips: Carnival and MSC. And while Carnival is arguably the most well-known cruise line anywhere, MSC isn't exactly a household name here in the United States. As a result, many people see the two lines offering some similar trips and wonder how they compare. Having I’ve sailed Carnival 3 times (Horizon x2, and Mardi Gras). I’ve sailed MSC twice (Divina and Seaside). I think I strongly prefer Carnival. I haven’t had a real issue that required major interaction with customer service on either so I have been lucky and my reviews only focus on the cruising experience. There are several differences between activities on MSC Cruises vs. Carnival. In general, MSC drops jaws with its nightly entertainment, while Carnival offers a constant happy-go-lucky party vibe where poolside belly-flop contests are the norm during the day and adult scavenger hunts are a raucous hit at night. I've done mardi gras, have not done msc for this reason: I've watched dozens of vids on msc. It and Carnival are more at the 'budget' end. Most msc reviews say it is ok, they came away satisfied but fully realize it was a budget cruise. MSC service, particularly if you need some kind of refund, is not very good. You will get more of the Carnival's Celebration, which launched in November 2022, is a sister ship to the famed Mardi Gras and a "celebration" for the cruise line's 50th birthday year. We had originally planned Royal Caribbean but my travel agent called me this morning to let me know the prices for the cruise (including extras) was so high she didn’t even want to send it to me, even the prices she gave me over the phone were outrageous. For example, a week cruise aboard the MSC Grandiosa from Port Canaveral in July 2026 can be had starting for just $813 per person with taxes and fees included. Comparable trips during that time run more than $1,100 aboard Carnival’s Mardi Gras sailing from Port Canaveral. We have it narrowed down to a 5 night on the carnival breeze or a 7 night on the msc seascape. Most things point us to msc (price, length, excursions, etc) but our concern is about food. The seascape doesn't seem to have as many food options, and 7 days is a while to keep eating the same stuff. It's 4 years older than the Mardi Gras, which was built in 2021. The Mardi Gras pays homage to Carnival's first ship, also named the Mardi Gras. It has two unique zones not found on its sister ships: The French Quarter, a New Orleans-themed area, and La Piazza, which is dedicated to the Italian heritage of Carnival cabins. Comparison Overview The Carnival Celebration was built in 2022. The Celebration is named after the original Celebration that sailed with Carnival from 1987 - 2008. It has two unique zones not found on its sister ships: The Gateway, an area dedicated to travel and Carnival's history, and 820 Biscayne which has a retro-Miami vibe. Just got off the Seascape and damn was that ship beautiful. Kids- Royal by a mile. Price- MSC by a mile. You can basically do two MSC cruises for the price of one Royal cruise. Overall I’d pick Royal but if the price is too high I’d give MSC a try. It’s a different experience but I had a good time on all my MSC cruises. I have been on both the Celebration and the Mardi Gras. They are basically identical minus some of the theme areas. The Mardi Gras has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme while the Celebration is Miami/Art Deco. The biggest difference in venues is two of the bars on deck six. They have different themes and drinks on the two ships.
