I’ve sailed MSC twice (Divina and Seaside). I think I strongly prefer Carnival. I haven’t had a real issue that required major interaction with customer service on either so I have been lucky and my reviews only focus on the cruising experience. We were a bit spectacle because of all the negative comments about MSC, but we actually loved our cruise. (we are not fussy people when it comes to travel) The question is, we are in the process of trying to book another cruise for July. We are considering the Celebrity Eclipse, MSC Seasore or the Carnival Mardi Gras. There are several differences between activities on MSC Cruises vs. Carnival. In general, MSC drops jaws with its nightly entertainment, while Carnival offers a constant happy-go-lucky party vibe where poolside belly-flop contests are the norm during the day and adult scavenger hunts are a raucous hit at night. When it comes to value, anyone searching for cruises is likely to run across two lines that offer some of the least expensive trips: Carnival and MSC. And while Carnival is arguably the most well-known cruise line anywhere, MSC isn't exactly a household name here in the United States. If you're looking for more of a party atmosphere (80's night or the Hot White Night for instance), more activities during the day, and food aimed at a more American crowd, go with the older Freedom. The Carnival Mardi Gras has 2 fewer bars than the MSC Seaside. The Mardi Gras has 16 bars like Fahrenheit 555 Bar, Grand View and Piano Bar 88. On Mardi Gras, you can grab a drink at 18 different bars such as Casino Bar, Shine Bar and Wine & Cocktails. The Carnival Celebration has a total of 6 pools and 7 hot tubs. 2 of the pools are exclusive access, which means there's either an extra charge to access them or you need to book a certain class of cabin to have access to them. MSC Seashore has fewer pools than the Celebration and more hot tubs. Disney Cruise Line's new ship Disney Wish is getting a lot of attention this summer. But with fares that start at $1,000 per day for a family of four, even a three- or four-night sailing might not be in most families' budgets. One of the main reasons we're considering Carnival is the amount of included food / restaurants that these two ships seem to offer. On MSC you just get a buffet and mdr. Carnival has softserve machines. On msc, ice cream costs extra (except for some mdr desserts). In general, my only takeaway is that the MSC ships are gorgeous, and they have really nice staircases. The new Carnival ships are nice too. If the msc is cheaper, and the cost difference is a really big deal, then We have an ancient hootoo travel router, it worked fine on Carnival Mardi Gras, but I think it was on Hal Rotterdam we could not get it to work, based on how their login forced us to go to a certain type of 'portal' page.
