Courir De Mardi Gras March 2, 2025 For more information call 337 227 8023 The Courir de Mardi Gras in Church Point adheres to tradition—only men are allowed to participate and they must don a mask and a costume. The event was revived in 1968, when it was established that it would be held on the Sunday before Mardi Gras day in order to not interfere with surrounding runs. In Louisiana's Cajun country, a traditional Mardi Gras is much different than what you might expect. Come along on a traditional "courir," or Mardi Gras run Elton Richard first formally organized the Church Point Courir de Mardi Gras in 1961. The first event featured over 400 riders from around Church Point and the Mamou area. The festivity was so large that organizers at the time decided to separate the events by town--one on the Sunday before Mardi Gras and one on Mardi Gras day. On Mardi Gras day, join the fun downtown while the Courir de Mardi Gras collects the ingredient list for the gumbo. Later that day, cut loose with a little Cajun dance party (a fais do-do) at Lakeview Park and Beach. Church Point holds its Annual Courir de Mardi Gras.
