How does the Carnival Celebration compare to the Carnival Mardi Gras? The Celebration was built in 2022. It is 1 year newer than the Mardi Gras, which was built in 2021. See all the differences in terms of size, facilities, and dining options. Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras are the newest and biggest ships in Carnival Cruise Line’s fleet. Both Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras are in the Excel class, with Carnival Jubilee joining them in December 2023.Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras offer more fun than ever before; after all, that is part of their brand! The Excel class of ships are 40% larger than all the other Carnival Celebration is the newest vessel from Carnival, while Mardi Gras showcases New Orleans culture and offers unique features like the BOLT rollercoaster and new dining options. Aside from the slight differences already mentioned above, they're the same ship. I have been on both the Celebration and the Mardi Gras. They are basically identical minus some of the theme areas. The Mardi Gras has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme while the Celebration is Miami/Art Deco. The biggest difference in venues is two of the bars on deck six. They have different themes and drinks on the two ships. How is the Celebration getting 46 more cabins with the same footprint as the Mardi Gras? What rooms/areas were removed to make room for these extra rooms? The Celebration will be over 2,000 gross tons more in order for those 46 cabins to be added. Emeril's on Celebration has more and nicer seating, menu is the same. I like the specialty bar menus (Latitudes and Golden Jubilee) on Celebration a tiny bit better than two of them on Mardi Gras (Brass Magnolia and Fortune Teller). Palm Restaurant on Mardi Gras.
