On Mardi Gras Day, Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, Le Vieux Mardi Gras de Eunice holds a traditional Courier de Mardi Gras. Costumed participants ride on horseback and flatbeds through the countryside. The Cajun Mardi Gras Festival is Eunice's largest community event of the year with 5 days of Street Dances, Live Music, Cajun Cuisine & Crafts and Cultural Demonstrations. The music and celebrations begin Friday Afternoon until after the parade rolls out on Tuesday Evening. Lebeau Mardi Gras Chicken Run at 103 Lebeau Church Road, Lebeau, 11 am - 5 pm; Courir de Mardi Gras and Parade in Eunice. Chicken run kicks off at 7 am and parade rolls after; For over 30 years, the Courir de Mardi Gras in Eunice has delighted locals and visitors alike with its combination of costumed revelry, music, dancing, and, of course, the exhilarating courir – a "run" that takes participants through the rural areas surrounding Eunice, collecting ingredients for a traditional gumbo along the way. Instead of catching beads and doubloons, revelers chase chickens in colorful costumes during Courir de Mardi Gras & Chicken Run. Events Coordinator, Courtney Elkins says the chicken run is part of their Cajun tradition that everyone loves to participate in. “They go and stop at houses. When they get to the people houses they beg to entertain Children ages 1-14 get to participate, and they are encouraged to be in full costume, mask, and capuchon. The Mardi Gras run begins at 9am. Participants arrive back at the Eunice Recreation Complex at 12pm for lunch, then depart for Harris Field at 1:15pm for the chicken chase. The day ends with a children’s parade in downtown Eunice at 3pm. On Sunday, kids and teenagers can get in on the Mardi Gras fun too with the Lil' Mardi Gras. Also on Sunday is an old-time boucherie beginning at 9:30am. The main event is the Courir de Mardi Gras & Chicken Run on Fat Tuesday.
