Z Krewe began in 1994 as a group of 10 zany friends who wanted a uniquely different Mardi Gras Galveston organization. Today, Z Krewe has grown to 150 members and is a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to perpetuating the spirit of Mardi Gras all year long. During Mardi Gras, Z Krewe hosts Z best balcony parties, with tickets available to the public. Mardi Gras! Galveston is delighted to announce the distinguished recipients of the prestigious George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Award: Mike Doherty and Kenneth Shelton. These two lifelong residents of Galveston Island will be honored at an awards ceremony on Friday, February 21, 5:30 PM, as part of the kick-off to Mardi Gras festivities. The parade will turn at 25th and Mechanic, and loop twice around Strand/Mechanic. 9:00 p.m. Mardi Gras! Galveston Parade The all-Krewe parade features marching bands, dance teams, and an all-out celebration for the final hours of Mardi Gras Galveston 2025. The parade begins at 28th Street and Market Street downtown, then heads south down 28th Street, then turns right down Postoffice Street, continuing toward the Strand historic district. The Tutu Live Krewe Honored with 2025 Newe Krewe Award. Galveston, TX – [January 1, 2025] – The Tutu Live Krewe has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 Newe Krewe Award. This prestigious award recognizes krewes established since 2011, celebrating their contributions to the vibrant and evolving Mardi Gras tradition in Galveston. Dazzling pageantry from the beach to The Strand, Galveston’s Mardi Gras celebration will feature over 20 parades as the island’s krewes prepare to throw more than 3 million beads and other trinkets to throngs of revelers.
