Mardi Gras . The annual George Street Mardi Gras is a popular event with the citizens of St. John’s, Newfoundland. Evoking the same fun spirit as the infamous New Orleans Mardi Gras, George Street’s event happens yearly around Halloween, transforming the entire street into the largest costume party in the country. During Mardi Gras and the George Street Festival, the street is gated and an admission fee is charged to hear the non-stop rock concert at Prince Edward Plaza, an outdoor stage near the street's eastern end. People can listen to the music or wander from bar to bar. George Street isn't the only place to go out at night in St. John's. There are Assemble with the rest of the drunkards in front of the stage situated in the middle of George for some live music. Oh yes, this street has its own stage.
