Mardi Gras is synonymous with the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. The parades have been canceled only 13 times in NOLA since 1857. In the proceeding 60 years, Mardi Gras has only been canceled once – in 1979, when a Police Union Strike prompted cancelation of the parade.
