Many people showed up to celebrate Mardi Gras in the streets of downtown Huntsville with live music, costumes, and bead throwing. The event kicked off early Saturday morning with a 5K run and wrapped up with a special pet parade. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) will close several streets in downtown Huntsville to ensure public safety during the annual Mardi Gras Parade. Street closures will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, ahead of the parade, which will start at 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Meridian Street and Cleveland Avenue. The 11th annual Mardi Gras parade is happening Saturday in downtown Huntsville. This year, the bead throw zone is from Commerce Kitchen down to the Old Humphreys. HUNTSVILLE, Ala.
