Icon of the Seas is the first in a whole new class of ships by Royal Caribbean that's designed to provide the "ultimate family vacation." It is currently the largest cruise ship in the world. It's 3 years newer than the Mardi Gras, which was built in 2021. The Mardi Gras pays homage to Carnival's first ship, also named the Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras is considered a large size ship. Coming in at 1,130 feet long and 137 feet wide, it's roughly the length of 3.1 football fields, as wide as 2.6 tractor-trailers and the same height as a 17-story building. Compared to the Royal Caribbean Icon of the Seas, the Mardi Gras is 28% smaller in terms of overall tons. The Celebration cruise Comparatively, Mardi Gras has 20+ complimentary eateries onboard - and they’re all pretty dang delicious. We ran out of time to try every option onboard, although we did try our best. Mardi Gras has Carnival’s signature dining options, such as Guy Fieri’s restaurants Guy’s Burger Joint and Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse. I did like the glass door shower compared to the previous curtain on older Carnival ships, but the bathroom was very narrow on Mardi Gras. Crowds: I think crowd management was better on Oasis vs Mardi Gras. It seemed like every spot of open deck space on Mardi Gras had a bar in it, which limited space and made it difficult to relax. Mardi Gras and her sister Celebration have a few more free food options than every ship older than them. Both companies ships usually have free slides and flowrider surfing. Many of Royal ships also have things like zip lines, laser tag, bumper cars, carousel, ice skating for free as well as a couple of options that are free some days and paid The Carnival Mardi Gras was built in 2021. Nothing on Celebration/Mardi Gras compared to it. I see why they have Utopia going back and forth from it every 3/4 days, it's a huge draw. Not sure about the kids part of that either. Both are great, overall experience wise I'd give Wonder 8/10 and Celebration/Mardi Gras 8.5/10 The Mardi Gras has a construction date of 2020 and a total size of 180,800 gross tons. The ship measures 1,130 feet (344 meters) in length and falls in line as number 3 among the 27 active ships that make up the fleet. Carnival Mardi Gras is included in Carnival’s XL Class. At full capacity, the Carnival Mardi Gras holds 8,375 passengers. Not only does Mardi Gras 2020 mark the group’s 30-year anniversary but it is also their first ever concert film to be released on high-definition video and made available on Blu-ray along with Mardi Gras definitely has the better itinerary, but I would personally pick the Oasis over the Mardi Gras in terms of the ship itself. As a disclaimer, I've only been on one of the Oasis' sister ships, the Symphony of the Seas, and haven't been on the new Carnival ships. 2. Dirty Rice. This dirty rice dish is a Louisiana staple and perfect on its own or as a bountiful side dish. The Wonder of the Seas is a boat about the big stuff. big shows, big dinners, big crowds. The Mardi Gras is set up to be a lot more like cruising a downtown at night.
