MARDI GRAS: FUN-FUELED VACATION INNOVATION POWERED BY LNG. When we launched our first ship, 1972's TSS Mardi Gras, we made cruising a lot less stuffy, a bit less fancy, the kind of fun everybody could enjoy. Nobody expected this ship to change the cruise world, but here we are! Carnival's smallest, active cruise ship is the Carnival Paradise with a gross tonnage measuring 70,367. The Carnival Mardi Gras was built in 2021. It's considered a large size ship. Coming in at 1,130 ft long and 137 ft wide, it's roughly the length of 3.1 football fields, as wide as 2.6 tractor trailers, and the same height as a 17-story building. At full capacity, the Carnival Mardi Gras holds 8,375 passengers. That includes 6,630 cruise vacationers and 1,745 staff members. As a cruise enthusiast, I’m always eager to sail on a cruise line’s latest and greatest vessel! There’s nothing quite like sailing on a brand-new ship during its inaugural season! Like many of the largest ships, the common issue noted by passengers is the wait times for elevators, food, and services, which can be long due to the high passenger capacity.
