Yes, Mardi Gras is a thing in Brazil! It’s a huge celebration that takes place every year in Rio de Janeiro. Tens of thousands of people come from all over the world to take part in the festivities. The PolicyMic team approached me to write a Carnival piece. I was asked by PolicyMic to write about Brazil’s Carnival, and I was the only Carnival, Mardi Gras, Ash Wednesday, Lent The Carnival of Brazil ( Portuguese : Carnaval do Brasil , IPA: [kaʁnaˈvaw] ) is an annual festival held the Friday afternoon before Ash Wednesday at noon, which marks the beginning of Lent , the forty-day period before Easter.
