Here’s how to celebrate Mardi Gras the Galveston way, with parades, live music and pet-friendly costume contests. While some events are free, several of the city’s official parades and all of its concerts are held inside the gates of the Entertainment District. The city also recently announced heightened security measures for its events. Mardi Gras! Galveston is delighted to announce the distinguished recipients of the prestigious George P. Mitchell Mardi Gras Award: Mike Doherty and Kenneth Shelton. These two lifelong residents of Galveston Island will be honored at an awards ceremony on Friday, February 21, 5:30 PM, as part of the kick-off to Mardi Gras festivities. Kingwood Mardi Gras Festival & Parade: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. The 31st annual Mardi Gras Festival and Parade in the Kingwood area is a family-friendly, free event taking place at 8 North Main St. in Houston. Galveston 5k. Runners dawning Mardi Gras themed t-shirts, socks and jester hats will “jaunt” through the Entertainment District Saturday morning for a 5k Fun Run that ends with free libations and a balcony party! The island’s 114 th Mardi Gras celebration began Friday, February 21, and continues until March 4, or Fat Tuesday. Both weekends will be packed with parades, parties and, of course, beads. Search Mardi Gras Galveston is a big event, attracting both newcomers and regular visitors with its parades, concerts, and vendors. Overnight parking on Seawall Boulevard is in high demand, showing how Galveston’s annual Mardi Gras celebration features several parades. Galveston has the nation's second-largest Mardi Gras celebrations, HTown Mardi Gras Block Party: 3-8 p.m. This free Mardi Gras: La Danse Finale at MarMo Plaza in Downtown Galveston | FREE – Following the Mystic Krewe of Aquarius Fat Tuesday Parade in in downtown Galveston, the party starts inside MarMo, with live music—Galvezton, DEM, and Come See My Dead Person. Outside on the plaza expect food vendors, artist installations, and a small market. 8pm to Pets and their humans are encouraged to wear their Mardi Gras finest. A costume contest is planned prior to the start of the parade from 12:15—1:00. Winners will be announced, and ribbons awarded prior to the start of the parade. 3:00pm- Mardi Gras! Firefighters Children’s Parade Known as the “every man’s Mardi Gras krewe,” this event was founded in 1995 and promotes civic and social activities within Galveston. Mardi Gras Galveston Parade at 9 p.m. The week’s festivities conclude with a parade, much like on the first Friday. March 1st, Saturday: Krewe d’Esprit Rosaire Parade at 11 a.m. The only Black Catholic Mardi Gras in Galveston. Mardi Gras! Galveston is the place to be for a full-on celebration, with festivities running from February 21 through March 4, 2025.
