Was on Mardi Gras twice last summer. Typical areas are no more or less crowded to us than other ships: Buffet at embarkation, buffet during late breakfast or on a port day, lido pool, casino in the evenings between 7 and 10pm, Guest Services, Java Blue for morning coffee(bad on every ship) and as others have mentioned, shows at Center Stage(shows were great but the design of the space is just At smaller capacities, the classic carnival deck layout is fine, but when they start having over 4000 people, they learned that they needed to redesign the whole ship. That's why mardi gras and celebration can hold even more people but still feel less crowded. Plus, there have been many staff shortages throughout the last few years. Conclusion- yes the Mardi Gras is a huge ship, really never felt over crowded despite all the people on it. Room design/setup is horrible, reverse couch and bed and would be great. Food as a whole was much improved and plenty to be had even at 12 a.m. and who doesn't like free soft serve ice cream and cookies for late night snack. Be prepared for crowds, as Carnival Mardi Gras is 40% bigger than anything Carnival had built before. Some people have the mentality that bigger is always better when it comes to cruise ships. However, others find that the crowds can be overwhelming if a ship is simply too big. We were on a sold out Mardi Gras the week before Christmas last year. Going in, I was very worried that it felt overcrowded, but I was pleasantly surprised. You had to get there early to get a good seat at the center stage theater, and the forward and mid-ship elevators got crowded, but other than that, it wasn’t bad at all for us. Ship is so overpacked with ppl. Wait times for most things. Really hard to get a drink with crowds 2-3 people deep waiting at bar. We had a terrible time at the Ciucina Capitano restaurant as the wait time was excessive and the food was so greasy and salty. The Mardi Gras is a beautiful ship, clean, smooth riding has a lot of venues to entertain all ages. Cabins are smaller than other cruise lines but comfortable and they have good storage. The ship was very clean and seemed to be well maintained (well, except for Bolt being down the whole cruise.) I was very impressed with how the ship handled the people on board. I know the ship had a lot of passengers, but we really didn't ever feel crowded. Even when we were dining at what I'd expect to be busy times, the ship never felt crowded. Mardi Gras has more things to do, has a nice, open design for public areas and features some great dining options (read: Big Chicken!). I was surprised just how much we liked Pride though, it has good-sized venues and never felt crowded, despite being >75% full. Mardi Gras Staterooms. You can count on Mardi Gras to have all the exceptionally comfortable stateroom categories you’ve come to expect on our other ships: from interior, ocean view and balcony staterooms, as well as traditional suites. Choose the stateroom that’s right for you and your crew, whether that’s family, friends, a partner, or Nice Ship, but crowded. Review forthe Eastern Caribbean Cruise on Carnival Mardi Gras.
