Knights of Ecor Rouge. KOER is the first men’s organization from the Eastern show to be a Mardi Gras krewe. They are a crowd favorite for every downtown parade and participate during the two Saturdays before Mardi Gras. Maids of Jubilee. From the start, KOR has paraded during the day on Fat Tuesday. In the earliest years, the KOR emblem float had folly dancing on a golden goblet between two crescent moons. In later years, the cup became a champagne glass. Mardi Gras balls have been around since Louisiana was a French colony. Just as we do today, Creole society kicked off the season on Twelfth Night with the King’s Ball (the Bal de Roi). The highlight of the evening was the cutting of the King Cake (the Gateau des Rois). Most Mardi Gras balls are invite-only. Sometimes, tickets can be extremely difficult to get unless you’re a member of an organization or know a member.
