On Mardi Gras day, February 13, 2024, there are three parades in Lafayette, starting with the long-standing King Gabriel's Parade, followed by the Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival Parade, and ending On Monday evening is Queen Evangeline's Parade, but many of the women's krewes in town will also be riding on the parade floats. On Mardi Gras day, Lafayette has three parades: the long-standing King Gabriel's Parade at 10 a.m., the Lafayette Mardi Gras Festival Parade at 1 p.m., and the Independent Parade at 2:30 p.m. The Mystic Krewe of Apollo de Lafayette is a Mardi Gras krewe that has been keeping the culture and tradition of Mardi Gras alive and on full display. Its signature event is the annual bal masque Bringing Lafayette’s Krewes Together. Today, nearly two dozen Krewes are recognized under the Southwest “umbrella.” The Association coordinates and manages six parades and presents an extravagant City Pageant / Ball on Mardi Gras night. The City Ball is open to the public with no admission fee. Proper dress is required. The Krewe hosts dinners, parties, and many other functions year-round in anticipation of the annual ball which takes place the Saturday before Mardi Gras day & is held at the Lafayette Cajundome. The Krewe of Triton street parade is held the Monday before Mardi Gras after the Queen Evangeline parade.
