π Lake Wales Mardi Gras is back for its 41st annual family-friendly celebration on February 28th and March 1st, 2025! π Since 1984, this amazing parade and festival has brought excitement to Lake Wales with floats, beads, live music, food, and spirits. With the assistance of Nettie's brother Ed, friend Robert Connors, son Jim Bernhardt, and a few others, the Lake Wales Mardi Gras took shape. The inaugural Mardi Gras parade featured Al's Place Band, and just two Krewes (Royal Order of the Red Swans and the Loyal Order of Wild Shiners) and numerous marching revelers. Since 1984, this amazing parade and festival has brought excitement to Lake Wales with floats, beads, live music, food, and spirits. This year marks the 41st annual Lake Wales Mardi Gras, promising to be more spectacular than ever. Festivities kick off on Friday, February 28, 2025, with live music from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Lake Wailes Park. The evening also features the popular 5K Glow Run at 6:00 PM along the scenic Lake Wailes Trail. A pageant of color and music will burst onto the streets of Lake Wales this weekend in the form of the annual city-wide Mardi Gras celebration. Highlighted by a two-day music festival and a traditional parade, the festival is expected to draw thousands to the downtown streets and the lakeshore festival grounds. On Saturday, March 1st, First Street will be closed at 10:30am. Portions of Park Avenue, Stuart Avenue, Central Avenue and Lakeshore Boulevard will be closed at 2pm. The roadways will reopen after the parade. Because Mardi Gras is celebrated in various cultures around the world costumes and music vary according to location. Lake Wales has incorporated traditions from many of them including feathered costumes from Rio, Dixieland Jazz, Blues and Zydeco music, Cajun food and mask from New Orleans. Since 1984, the annual Mardi Gras parade and festival has entertained thousands of residents and visitors in Lake Wales with floats, beads, live music, food and spirits. The Mardi Gras ramps up on Friday, March 31 with the start of a two-day free music festival on the shores of Lake Wailes that lasts until 10 p.m. Featuring a dozen popular bands, the event continues during the day and evening on Saturday, pausing only for the 3 p.m. start of the Mardi Gras Parade, which steps off downtown before winding it's Beads, doubloons, and other trinkets are tossed to spectators along the Mardi Gras route as βthrowsβ β the traditional souvenirs of every Mardi Gras. Because Mardi Gras is celebrated in various cultures around the world costumes and music vary according to location. Lake Wales has incorporated traditions from many of them including -Lighted Boat Parade at 7:00 PM. Sunday, March 2 - Mardi Gras Children's Day - start time TDB-Children's Parade at 3:30 PM. Monday, March 3 - Presentation of 2025's royal courts at the Royal Gala at 7:00 PM. Tuesday, March 4 - Downtown Mardi Gras Block Party-Mardi Gras in the ZONE (kid's zone) - 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM
