The streets are still busy for the trad jazz flavoured sounds from the various stages, but the Mardi Gras is now more of a warm-up for the following day's Edinburgh Carnival, which includes Parades, music and dance in West Princes Street Gardens. Crowds come in their thousands to be entertained by the sights and sounds of this fantastic party, and entertainment there most certainly is Edinburgh is to revive its “Festival Carnival" along Princes Street and a “Mardi Gras” event in the Grassmarket to herald the start of the the 75th-anniversary season of the city’s annual The festival’s Mardi Gras takes place in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town where you can enjoy a mix of soul and brass band music. 2024 is welcoming back some of Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival’s best loved artists. The festival is sure to be another incredible event packed with the very best music from at home and abroad. The free Mardi Gras and Carnival events have given the festival even wider audience appeal, with the festival itself attracting major international jazz names from all over the world as well as from the burgeoning Scottish contemporary jazz scene. Mardi Gras takes place on Saturday 13 July 2024, with the full line-up announced at the end of June 2024. Featuring over 1000 performers from across the world, viewers will be treated to a cavalcade of dance, acrobatics, drumming and music. Highlights of the EJBF are the free Mardi Gras, with live bands playing in the Grassmarket on the first Saturday of the festival. The free Edinburgh Festival Carnival also opens on the first Sunday of the Jazz Festival, with a colourful, 800-strong parade down The Mound to Princes Street Gardens.
