The Mardi Gras is considered a large size ship. Coming in at 1,130 feet long and 137 feet wide, it's roughly the length of 3.1 football fields, as wide as 2.6 tractor-trailers and the same height as a 17-story building. Compared to the Carnival Magic, the Mardi Gras is 41% larger in terms of overall tons. Carnival Magic holds 30% fewer passengers than the Mardi Gras based on double occupancy (two people per room). When you look at the "Space Ratio," or tons of ship compared to number of passengers, the Magic has the same amount of space per person as the Mardi Gras. Family of 4 (kids are 7 and 9) experience cruisers but not since covid magic- 8 day- San Juan, st kitts, st marten, grand turk mardi Gras- 7 day- San Juan, amber cove, grand turk We know it’s spring break so it will be crowded but The Mardi Gras is shiny and new and on an entirely new level for Carnival. The itinerary is definitely not amazing. I love Cozumel. But Mahogany Bay was not a great spot. Just a beach with abysmal food and shopping options. I’d probably still pick the Mardi Gras even with that, though. I’m a sucker for a shiny mega ship. Mardi Gras has the best food out of all Carnival ships. So far I think either Magic 8 night to Aruba, Bonaire & Amber Cove or Mardi Gras to San Juan, Grand Turk and Amber Cove. We have B2B on Horizon booked in April that includes Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, and Mardi Gras in December 2023 which includes the same cruise. We love the Magic and the Breeze. We've been on the Magic twice and would definitely do it again. Can't really say much about the Mardi Gras since all the information that is out there is all we have to go on as well. We have been booked on the Mardi Gras since February of 2019 for April 24 of this year, but I'm not sure if that will happen. The Mardi Gras is 40% larger, and has more dining options if you like options. It also has a more upscale look/feel to it. The rooms on Mardi Gras are nice,looking, but the Magic's rooms are a bit bigger. If you want the latest and greatest, Mardi Gras is the way to go. If you want tried and true, Magic is a safe bet.
