New Orleans takes Mardi Gras seriously, with traditions including king cake and parades beginning in January and lasting for weeks until the actual holiday itself. The word "Mardi Gras" means "Fat Tuesday" in the French language. Celebrations include festivals, parades, dancing and feasting before the fasting starting on Ash Wednesday Days to Mardi Gras 2024. Tuesday, February 13th is day number 44 of the 2024 calendar year with -1 year, -17 days until Mardi Gras 2024. The 2024 New Orleans Carnival season starts on Saturday, Jan. 6, and concludes on Mardi Gras, Tuesday Feb. 13. Mardi Gras is set 47 days before Easter, and it falls on a Tuesday between Feb. 3 and March 9. These two dates are extra special, because Mardi Gras will fall on them only once in a lifetime, each Mardi Gras festivities in 2024 are already set in New Orleans, starting on Jan. 6.
