Beginning as a religious holiday observed prior to the Christian Lenten season, Mardi Gras has since expanded The 2024 New Orleans Carnival season starts on Saturday, Jan. 6, and concludes on Mardi Gras, Tuesday Feb. 13. Mardi Gras, like Christmas, is a whole season - not just one day. That being said, Fat Tuesday is the biggest day of celebration, and the date it falls on moves around. This annual Mardi Gras ball is hosted by the Krewe of Les Petits Enfants (the Order of the Small Children) to benefit the sick and injured children and infants at The Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Sacred Heart in Pensacola. The Mardi Gras has a construction date of 2020 and a total size of 180,800 gross tons. The ship measures 1,130 feet (344 meters) in length. Carnival Mardi Gras is included in Carnival’s XL Class. At full capacity, the Carnival Mardi Gras holds 8,375 passengers. That includes 6,630 cruise vacationers and 1,745 staff members.
