The Krewe of Hera ball kicks off the formal Mardi Gras season Saturday at Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. Unlike the jammed 2024 season, the 2025 Mardi Gras calendar gives local krewes five weeks of pre-carnival celebrations. This year’s Mardi Gras is Tuesday, March 4. The latest possible date for Mardi Gras is March 8. ST. MARY PARISH — Mardi Gras season is in full swing, and the celebrations in Morgan City are drawing large crowds. On Sunday, the city hosted three parades: the Krewe of Galetea, Krewe of Nike Joe Sanford Jr. and Natalie Bourgeois reigned as King and Queen Hephaestus LXIV at the krewe's annual Mardi Gras ball on Saturday at the Morgan City Auditorium. The queen is the daughter of Gerard and Ruth Bourgeois. The ball theme was "The Spectrum of Art and Emotion." Kenneth Conrad, the 2024 captain of the krewe, depicted the Great Artist. Organized in 1971, the Krewe celebrates its 44th anniversary. Route begins on 2nd Street under the Highway 182 bridge downtown Morgan City to Onstead, Sixth, Marguerite, Ninth, Clothilde and Victor II ending at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium off Myrtle. With the theme “Realms Beyond Reality,” John Barrett Hover and Lucy Hamer reigned as King and Queen Hephaestus LXV over the royal court at its ball on Saturday. Krewe Captain Michelle Giordano Queen and King of Galatea LI Mrs. Kenneth C. Cefalu and Bryan Belle will make a farewell appearance Saturday when the woman’s krewe presents its tableau at 7:50 p.m. at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium. This is an invitation-only event. Members of the krewe will present a Mardi Gras parade at 2 p.m. Feb. 27 in Morgan City.
