I know this has been asked a million times but here it is again. My wife and I will be attending Mardi Gras 2024. We would love to go to a ball. Any information on when tickets will go on sale Or if you have a private ball ticket hook up, hit us up. We would love to have a good time, party and meet some new people. Pics of us included for tax. The weekend before Mardi Gras all the action is on this route, but Lundi and Mardi Gras most of the action is downtown. Uptown parades (the ones on St. Charles) are the ones with the big elaborate floats that throw all the beads, downtown parades (usually start in the Marigny but go through parts of the French Quarter, Treme and Bywater) are Mardi Gras balls - I didn't grow up a family where this was a thing, but I have friends who get tables for various different balls so I just tag along when invited. Best Dressed Ball - I just buy a table. Cheapest option is $3k and it seats 10 total people with a sit down meal, open bar, live band, etc. BROC Rock and Wine - I just buy a ticket. Mardi Gras balls were exclusive events closed off from most people outside of New Orleans society until this krewe revolutionized the event. In 1949, Edward Brennan Sr. created the krewe, a carnival Ball open to tourists. Early Mardi Gras Balls . Mardi Gras balls have been around since Louisiana was a French colony. Just as we do today, Creole society kicked off the season on Twelfth Night with the King’s Ball (the Bal de Roi). The highlight of the evening was the cutting of the King Cake (the Gateau des Rois). The founder of Osiris began fundraising efforts in 1981 with the intent to establish a strictly gay Mardi Gras association. The Order of Osiris has now grown over the years, changing with the times to become an all-inclusive Mardi Gras organization. Currently, the group has a variety of members ranging in age, gender, sexual orientation and race. Given that Mardi Gras is the culmination of a month-long party, any skillful local will avoid drinking the whole keg in a single night. Also, there is usually a Zulu festival by the river in the FQ on Lundi Gras. 3. You can wear a costume anytime you want, but you see the most full blown costumes on Fat Tuesday. I go full out on Mardi Gras, but usually stick to Carnival festive wear at other times(MG themed clothes, might throw on a tutu, glitter makeup, maybe a wig or headpiece). Favorite shops for Mardi Gras ballgown After a decade of life in NOLA, I may finally go to a Mardi Gras ball. I need a floor-length gown, and my husband needs a tux. I am attending a Mardi Gras Ball in January, and the dress code is formal (think fancy floor-length gowns and guys in tuxes). Petite ladies know “floor-length gowns” are a complete nightmare! What is floor length on an “average” height person is 18” too long on us! We eventually realized the best time to enjoy Mardi Gras was during the day. However, if you like the balls to the wall insane crazy party scene, it's all about going out at night. I enjoyed New Orleans, and Mardi Gras was fun, but if I ever go back, I'll probably skip Mardi Gras.
