I went on Mardi Gras 3 weeks ago. My wife, two young kids and me. I sailed a lot as a kid (mostly Carnival but also RC and NCL) so on the MG I went platinum. It helped a lot with the lines for embarkation, guest services and disembarking. However, you’re right on. It’s quite crowded and the elevators are too small. This was going to be our 2nd and 3rd cruise with Carnival with our only other cruise being on Norwegian. We haven't cruised Carnival since 2013 so a lot of changes have come about. Cruise: 7 Day on the Mardi Gras 7-14 May (Nassau, Amber Cove, Grand Turk). We booked a standard balcony room in mid-forward on the 14th floor. If you cruise for the food and drinks, Mardi Gras will not let you down. Our meal at Rudi's Sea Grill was the best dining experience I've ever had on Carnival. So many good dining options onboard is a huge plus. Shaq's Big Chicken is the best fast food at sea. Emeril's is great for New Orleans style seafood. On Mardi Gras last year, the dining room opened 30 minutes earlier (5:00) on the first elegant night than the other six nights. Also, on Mardi Gras with YTD you have the option to dine in the dining room, Cucina del Capitano, Chibang, and Pig and Anchor. For Pig and Anchor you just show up, but you check in on the app for the others. I've done both. I prefer Mardi Gras because 1.) I like sailing from Port Canaveral, 2.) I hate sailing from Miami, and 3.) I like the decor and the bars better on Mardi Gras. Aside from the slight differences already mentioned above, they're the same ship. Just off the Mardi-Gras this morning with a couple of cabin location suggestions . Balcony cabins midship-stern on the starboard sign you may smell the smokers below you (if that bothers you) If you can grab one of those balconies that begin a row of cabins of the same category , as #14495 as we had. (same cruise rate as cabins) next door . Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday, which takes place March 4, marks the party’s climax and the end of Carnival Season on the Gulf Coast. The conclusion falls the day before Ash Wednesday and is seen as a final day of feasting and revelry before the solemnity of Lent. Carnival Mardi Gras. May 5, 2021 #1 I am booked on the Carnival Madri Gras sailing July 24th from Port Canaveral. Facebook Twitter Reddit Pinterest Tumblr I'm stuck picking between Vista and Mardi Gras for myself, wife, and sons (4 and 6). Picking between Vista family harbor cove balcony or family harbor ocean view deluxe. and then on the mardi gras either family harbor ocean view or a higher up extended balcony. Which ship is better suited for kid The Mardi Gras is 40% larger, and has more dining options if you like options. It also has a more upscale look/feel to it. The rooms on Mardi Gras are nice, looking, but the Magic's rooms are a bit bigger. If you want the latest and greatest, Mardi Gras is the way to go. If you want tried and true, Magic is a safe bet. I personally would return to the Mardi Gras eventually but am looking forward to trying a non-excel class to see if I enjoy them (Horizon next). You can always find a quiet place to be if you want one but the Lido deck is always so overwhelming I spend 0 time there which feels a bit counterintuitive as I do enjoy partying and drinking and that I have been on both the Celebration and the Mardi Gras. They are basically identical minus some of the theme areas. The Mardi Gras has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme while the Celebration is Miami/Art Deco. The biggest difference in venues is two of the bars on deck six. They have different themes and drinks on the two ships. My husband and I went on the Mardi Gras in May and it was our 5th cruise and 4th ship. The Mardi Gras was beautiful and absolutely massive. The interior was decorated beautifully. Having said that, I really missed the layout of the older ships. There doesn’t seem like there is really a centralized area on the MG. Getting ready to book a Valentine’s Day trip for my Bf and me , and I was looking at the Celebration or Mardi Gras for our 7 day trip. This is his first cruise and my fourth (all carnival) obviously my first time on either ship but I’m leaning towards Celebration however I’m still undecided even tho they are VERY similar I think the destinations that Celebration offers is better for this So I went on the Mardi Gras back in 2022 and now have it booked again for September 2024. I haven't kept up with any updates on it, but when we first went on it, all the dining options except for the Steakhouse, Seafood, and Hibachi place were free of charge for lunch and dinner. Mardi Gras definitely has the better itinerary, but I would personally pick the Oasis over the Mardi Gras in terms of the ship itself. As a disclaimer, I've only been on one of the Oasis' sister ships, the Symphony of the Seas, and haven't been on the new Carnival ships. it's actually such a shame carnival didn't go forward with their ambitious pinnacle project in the mid-2000s when they had a design that would put their stamp on the industry, well before the oasis class debuted. if only they pushed forward and we all could've maybe had 5-6 Mardi Gras ships The 9/11 attacks definitely set back the industry. Fun for All. All for Fun. Join your fellow cruise enthusiasts to talk sun, sand, and all things Carnival Cruise Lines. This is an unofficial fan community not affiliated with Carnival Corporation. Overall, I don't know if your experience will be much different on Mardi Gras. The layout is totally different, but it's the same kind of experience overall. It'd be different if you were talking about Carnival's older ships for booze cruises, but the Vista should provide similar levels of service, options, and class as the Mardi Gras. They have way more Mardi Gras ahead of them, you don't need to give them the beads from the limited number of Mardi Gras years left in your future. The peer pressure cringe. When one person gives the throws they catch to kids then people around them feel bad for not doing the same so then they also give the kids more throws.
