Traditional Mardi Gras costuming is kept alive thanks to a mother and daughter duo. Le Vieux Moulin has been a Mardi Gras staple for over 20 years in Church Point. The 63rd Annual Saddle Tramp Riders Club/Church Point Courir de Mardi Gras will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025. Our full day event is one fluid route, but is comprised of a traditional Courir de Mardi Gras (Country Route) (8am-1:00pm),and a Parade down Main Street in the Town of Church Point (1pm-3:30pm). The Courir will stop at several Farmhouses along the route to collect ingredients for 1. Cajun Mardi Gras Tradition requires that MEN ONLY are allowed on the Mardi Gras Run. 2. Highly recommended that runners be Fully Masked [or painted face], wearing a capuchon and in a TRADITIONAL Mardi Gras Costume. Horseback riders are allowed to wear cowboy hats and use bandanas as face coverings. Wigs will be permitted. According to Church Point business owner, Jean Norman, 79, the original purpose of the colorful costumes was to disguise yourself as you engage in mischievous activities. Jean has been making Mardi Gras costumes, alongside her husband, Tom Norman, 77, for the past 20 years and enjoys helping to keep Cajun culture alive.
