The Mardi Gras Museum is a Contemporary celebration of the vast array of grassroots traditions of Mardi Gras. Come see the pageantry, fun, and creativity that makes the Mardi Gras experience so rich. Join us in our costume closet, make masks and experience the creativity and craftsmanship that goes into the creation of these fantastic costumes! The museum is open Saturday 11:30 am – 3:30 pm guided tours at Noon and 2 PM. Open for Tours Only Friday / Sunday / Monday at 2PM. Mardi Gras Tours give a rich view into the Mardi Gras Tradition of Costuming The all-female marching krewe, Dames de Perlage, has been chosen to display its hand-stitched beaded bustiers and headdresses at the Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture in the French Quarter. The Mardi Gras Museum covers the history of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, displaying one of a kind costumes from the Carl Mack collection, and showing If you are in need of a costume they are also available to rent. Unfortunately the museum is small, and out tour was overcrowded, which made it difficult to fit into the small rooms when the costumes were being explained. Nonetheless we spent a fun hour at the New Orleans Mardi Gras Costume Museum, at the reasonable price of $15 per person. On exhibit are the regalia of Mardi Gras Kings and Queens, elaborately feathered and beaded Mardi Gras Indian suits, costumes from Carnival Krewe Tableau balls You can also experience Mardi Gras for yourself by playing dress-up for fun and the selfies in the museum’s vast costume closet. Mardi Gras Museum at Arnaud’s 813 Bienville Street. This small museum dedicated to the Carnival is located inside the sprawling grande dame of elevated Creole dining, Arnaud’s. The restaurant was founded in 1910 The museum brings together more than two dozen lavish Mardi Gras costumes, including 13 of Mrs. Wells’ queen costumes, one of her mother’s and one of her daughter’s, as well as four king’s costumes worn by Count Arnaud, (whose title was entirely local and honorary) and six children’s costumes. Which is a shame, because upstairs in Arnaud's restaurant in the French Quarter is a small, free museum of Ms. Well's costumes from about 30 years of Queen of the city's Mardi Gras parades. The woman who owns Arnaud's held on to the collection and the maitre di very enthusiastically led us up the stairs when we asked where the museum was. Curated by Director Helen del Guidice, the Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture features an amazing array of Carnival costumes from New Orleans entertainment producer and costume impresario Carl Mack’s private collection, showcasing the rich history of costuming in New Orleans and the variety of ways in which revelers participate in the celebration of Mardi Gras and the Carnival season. The Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu, filling six classrooms at Central School, opened on January 6th (12th Night) for the 1998 Mardi Gras season until forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. Today, 40 years later, as the owner/entertainer of the Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture and a self-made entrepreneur, Carl has found his niche renting costumes and staging mini-parades and other celebratory events for conventioneers, visitors and locals under his business name “Carl Mack Presents . . .” We invite our guests to dress up in authentic Mardi Gras gear from our collection and experience the joy of Mardi Gras revealing!
