The Mardi Gras is 40% larger, and has more dining options if you like options. It also has a more upscale look/feel to it. The rooms on Mardi Gras are nice, looking, but the Magic's rooms are a bit bigger. If you want the latest and greatest, Mardi Gras is the way to go. If you want tried and true, Magic is a safe bet. Both the ships were smaller relative to the Mardi Gras. The included food options available on Mardi Gras were above and beyond what we expected. The bigger the ship though, the more people. There are trade offs. Carnival is more about activities and having fun than being a quiet ship. There are areas that are adult only that help mitigate if Im going on Mardi Gras next February. Really looking forward to it. When we sailed on Mariner of the Seas at the start of the month, Mardi Gras was leaving Port Canaveral at the same time. Everyone in our group was jealous, though mostly because of the roller coaster. The roller coast looks cool, but im not excited about spending $15/ride. Just off the Mardi-Gras this morning with a couple of cabin location suggestions . Balcony cabins midship-stern on the starboard sign you may smell the smokers below you (if that bothers you) If you can grab one of those balconies that begin a row of cabins of the same category , as #14495 as we had. (same cruise rate as cabins) next door . Overall, a great cruise on a beautiful cruise ship! We have been on over 25 cruises including Norwegian,Celebrity,Princess,Royal Caribbean, and Carnival. The Mardi Gras was one of the best! My husband and I went on the Mardi Gras in May and it was our 5th cruise and 4th ship. The Mardi Gras was beautiful and absolutely massive. The interior was decorated beautifully. Having said that, I really missed the layout of the older ships. There doesn’t seem like there is really a centralized area on the MG. I am booked on the Carnival Madri Gras sailing July 24th from Port Canaveral. It does not show cancelled, but all dates for July taken off the calendar. Any thoughts on whether or not this ship will actually sail as scheduled? I need my vacation! The last time we were on a ship under 100 K was over 12 years and 30+ cruises ago on the Spirit doing the Mexican Riviera. There is no right or wrong answer, but for us at this time the smaller ships are in our rear view mirror. One downside to the Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship is that while there are lots of venues, some are too small to handle a rush. The traditional theater can only seat 900 at a time, and both the I have been on both the Celebration and the Mardi Gras. They are basically identical minus some of the theme areas. The Mardi Gras has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme while the Celebration is Miami/Art Deco. The biggest difference in venues is two of the bars on deck six. They have different themes and drinks on the two ships. We took a cruise on Mardi Gras when it was 50% capacity and it was enjoyable. Then we took one when it was at full capacity and not just every room was booked, but supposedly every bed was booked and it sucked. All cruise long we were being pestered to eat at the “specialty dining” options, because the MDR was just too full. Getting ready to book a Valentine’s Day trip for my Bf and me , and I was looking at the Celebration or Mardi Gras for our 7 day trip. This is his first cruise and my fourth (all carnival) obviously my first time on either ship but I’m leaning towards Celebration however I’m still undecided even tho they are VERY similar I think the destinations that Celebration offers is better for this Buffet is actually pretty small but there was never a huge line because of all the other options. Shaqs chicken was amazing. Ship is pretty big. Elevators at the aft of ship took a while to come. The top deck had a bunch of stuff to do. Personally I prefer a little smaller ship but that's just me and had nothing to do with the Mardi Gras ship I have been on both the Celebration and the Mardi Gras. They are basically identical minus some of the theme areas. The Mardi Gras has a New Orleans/Mardi Gras theme while the Celebration is Miami/Art Deco. The biggest difference in venues is two of the bars on deck six. They have different themes and drinks on the two ships. Give me a few days and I'll let you know. What part of the ship are you booked? We are on Deck 16 leaving this Saturday, directly under the M in the Mardi Gras on the starboard side. I have Spa Balcony booked on Deck 17 booked in the inset for January and I suspect that balcony will never receive sun. Both ships felt clean but the Celebration felt cleaner overall (it's newer so that probably makes sense). I personally would return to the Mardi Gras eventually but am looking forward to trying a non-excel class to see if I enjoy them (Horizon next). I think OP is probably referring to some Carnival ships having access to areas in front of the passenger decks 6-8ish, not the very front of the ship where some ships have that helipad. I know that at least the Conquest-class ships have it, but not sure about the new Celebration/Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras definitely has the better itinerary, but I would personally pick the Oasis over the Mardi Gras in terms of the ship itself. As a disclaimer, I've only been on one of the Oasis' sister ships, the Symphony of the Seas, and haven't been on the new Carnival ships. This last point may be a bit moot/paranoid, but whatever. If I were ever on a ship where the ship was disabled or we were confined to quarters (and here the internet can provide you with examples) the ability to step out on the balcony would be a godsend. I’ve been on 3 cruises now, two balcony and one ocean view. Overall, I don't know if your experience will be much different on Mardi Gras. The layout is totally different, but it's the same kind of experience overall. It'd be different if you were talking about Carnival's older ships for booze cruises, but the Vista should provide similar levels of service, options, and class as the Mardi Gras.
