Decatur, GA — The Mead Rd Mardi Gras parade returns to Decatur on Feb. 3 at 1 p.m. The public is invited to watch the parade along Mead Road and Oakview Road. Erin Murphy, one of the organizers of the event, said, “Last year was the last that the parade founders Emily and David Berg planned to facilitate after almost 10 years. Decatur, GA — Mead Road Mardi Gras will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The annual parade and party will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, along Mead Road in Decatur. Emily and Dave Berg founded the event 20 years ago as a neighborhood gathering on Mead Road, and it has flourished over the years. Mead Road Mardi Gras (MRMG) was founded by Oakhurst residents David and Emily Berg in 2005 as a way to bring the joy of Mardi Gras to their neighbors in Decatur. What started as a house party when their children were little has grown into a vibrant, non-profit, community-wide annual celebration. We rely on the generous support of our neighbors and sponsors to bring Mardi Gras magic to Decatur and to raise funds for Decatur Education Foundation. This year we are encouraging families to show their support by becoming a Lagniappe Family Supporter. Lagniappe (lan-yap) is a creole word meaning a small gift or a little something extra. On Mardi Gras in southwest Louisiana, some people will take part in the Cajun French tradition of the Courir de Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday Run. These rural processions, with links to rituals from medieval France, feature masked and costumed riders, with stops where participants perform and beg for goods. The Krewe of Des Allemands parade is on March 2 at 1:00 p.m. Roads will be closed from 12:45 p.m. to about 3:00 p.m. on US 90 (Mitchell Lane to WPA Road) and US 90 Business / Old Spanish Trail On Mardi Gras Day, Tuesday, Feb. 13, street parking will be free. Parking garages are also available, but can be pricy and spots often fill up quickly.
