On January 6, 2022, the Historic New Orleans Collection’s Making Mardi Gras exhibition rambles its way into the museum's French Quarter galleries. This showstopping display invites visitors into the sprawling dens, late-night sewing sessions, and sweaty dance rehearsals where “The Greatest Free Show on Earth” is created and re-created each year among the city’s diverse communities. Trust us, you won’t find anything like this outside New Orleans. Mardi Gras World 1380 Port of New Orleans Place. Mardi Gras World is located along the Mississippi River, next to the Morial Convention Center. More than 80 percent of the parade floats that you see on the streets of New Orleans during the Carnival season are designed and built The Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond exhibit tells of rescue, rebuilding, and renewal. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans’ badly engineered levee system, it resulted in one of the worst disasters in American history, leaving 80 percent of the city flooded and hundreds dead. The Presbytere houses an elaborate and exquisite collection of Mardi Gras artifacts and memorabilia. The story of New Orleans' extraordinary Mardi Gras tradition is dynamically told in a high-tech, interactive, permanent exhibition titled "Mardi Gras: It's Carnival Time in Louisiana." The exhibit traces the celebration from its ancient origins to the 19th century emergence of New Orleans The exhibits at The Mardi Gras Museum are from the largest personal collection of Mardi Gras costumes in the City of New Orleans, owned by founder Carl Mack. The collection includes costumes from Carnival ball royalty, Mardi Gras Indians, Cajun Mardi Gras, Carnival in Brazil, Gay Carnival Krewes, Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs, Walking Clubs and If you come to New Orleans during Carnival season, you can take your pick of 70+ parades. If you come in the summer, you can still experience the wonder of Mardi Gras at several museums around the city, including the one inside the Presbytère, right next to St. Louis Cathedral on Jackson Square. This year, the Rex Organization, also known as the School of Design, is celebrating its 150th Mardi Gras season.In honor of this historic event, The Louisiana State Museum is presenting a special exhibit at the Presbytere in Jackson Square, showcases the artistry, innovation, economic, and philanthropic history of the krewe. Until December 30 of 2018, The Presbytère will host an exhibit of the development of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and a separate installation on the history of women in Mardi Gras. 751 Chartres St The Rex Archives at the Historic New Orleans Collection. To mark the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Rex Organization, this exhibition, running through May 8, showcases jewels, favors, doubloons, float designs and more from the Historic New Orleans Collection’s impressive treasure trove. Now On Exhibit at The Presbytère. Mardi Gras 2018 may have rolled into the history books but, until December 2018, you can celebrate Iris and the Goddesses of Carnival at The Presbytère, 751 Chartres Street on Jackson Square.
