I lived downtown "inside the fence" of Mardi Gras until last year. Even at night it was tame on the strand. However, the big concert venue that would setup in a parking lot on Mechanic could get pretty roudy. The police do a good job of keeping the peace. i went last year for the first time and saw ghostland observatory. there werel plenty of people but not crowded enough to be miserable. i think it was a later weekend so maybe that's why it wasn't shoulder to shoulder like i've seen before. we had a good time just walking around drinking and looking at parades. it was fun enough to check out. we also started the day around lunch at The Spot Welcome to Historic Galveston, Texas How is the Mardi Gras event my first time going but you can search old topics.
