Opinions on Mardi Gras Hotel My friend and I are gonna be at an upcoming festival. They had booked The Mardi Gras Hotel awhile ago since it was cheap and close proximity to the festival grounds. Hotel Mazarin, would be my vote. I do not like to be on the other side of Canal during Mardi Gras. So much going on in the quarter. But that is just me. I do not like parades that much. Prefer people watching. But if you plan on watching parades mostly then Sheraton. The casino on the Mardi Gras is gigantic unless you are a smoker. There is a huge assortment games. Bells and whistles to the max but since they are all still fairly new most of the settings buttons work and are easily adjusted. The Mardi Gras might make sense if you were attending an event at the Convention Center, but other than that it is has little to offer someone simply going to enjoy a few days in Vegas. The "casino" is a small room with a few slot machines. There are exterior hallways, which always feels less safe to me. It's more Motor Lodge than Casino Hotel. Also, it's on Paradise, which is quite a hike from Las Vegas Blvd. They have a very small casino there, but if you're expecting Paris or even Imperial Palace, you may likely be disappointed. You have been in Vegas before, but how far have you ventured Off Strip or away from Fremont Street? Basing your hotel choice on the resort fee is not the best way to consider the property. What about the entire hotel charge, being the room rate with tax and the resort fee with tax. There are better properties that may have the same or less expensive rates. Close, but it looks super dingy. 5 years ago, I booked a 5 night solo stay at Ballys, I decided last minute to drive up the night before and play a poker tournament, I just needed a room for a few hours to sleep and shower after the tournament before checking into Ballys. I looked for the cheapest room and found one at Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino. The weekend before Mardi Gras all the action is on this route, but Lundi and Mardi Gras most of the action is downtown.
