Mardi Gras Itinerary and Questions Hey all, I grew up in NOLA but moved out when I was 10, so I know the basics but this is my first attempt planning a Mardi Gras trip. Bringing my wife and two other couples. As for people laughing at your itinerary plans, it is because it’s impossible to do during Mardi Gras. It’s the busiest time of the year. Everywhere will be a shitshow. It will be very busy at every restaurant and bar, especially with tourists in the FQ. This is like thinking you could get tours of Times Square on NYE. The weekend before Mardi Gras all the action is on this route, but Lundi and Mardi Gras most of the action is downtown. I can understand how a tourist/outside like yourself can think Mardi Gras and The French Quarter/Bourbon Street are one in the same, but the reality is you can experience everything Mardi Gras has to offer and be miles away from the French Quarter. Please, come, bring the fam, have a great time. Mardi Gras Day will vary greatly for locals. Some do big parades, some do neighborhood things and some do neighborhood parades that end up in the 1/4. But it's the last day of festivities that begin every year on January 6th. For me, Mardi Gras Day is about the costumes, rolling into the 1/4 with the neighborhood. If you're big on costuming We are scheduled for an 8-day cruise on the Carnival Mardi Gras on July 8. Carnival’s site isn’t much help in determining what nights are formal nights, and we are trying to book our speciality dining. His Airbnb was out that way so we were driving past them about 2:00 p.m. and he was like "I can't believe people are sitting out here waiting for a parade that doesn't start for 4 hours!" The weather was as perfect as we could ask for, with rain only on the last day. It was generally warm with cool breezes and absolutely gorgeous at night (70-75 degrees). 10/10 recommend visiting at this time of year if you are trying to avoid the heat of summer or the crowds of Mardi Gras. Here’s the thing about going during Mardi Gras: it’s usually less crowded there than during other holidays but NOT if Mardi Gras falls the same week as President’s week. For Mardi Gras it’s really just the Louisiana and a few pockets of Mississippi schools out that week, but if President’s Week falls on the same dates then the entire 2/11 is the first night of Mardi Gras in Mobile. The Conde Caveliers roll that night. They're huge, and usually put on a good parade. 2/19 is the Mobile Mystics. Usually a song and dance type thing but sometimes magic or the like. Usually this will have an early and late seating so you can work dinner around it. There will also be comedy shows but the frequency and number of comedians will vary based on the ship. I just did Mardi Gras and saw 5 different comedians on a 7 day cruise.
