(KPLC) - After years of temporary locations and damage from hurricanes, a dream is coming true in the Nellie Lutcher Cultural District off Enterprise Blvd. Construction is finally underway for a New Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu. We spoke to David Paul and Anne Monlezun this morning to get the details. Feast your eyes on intricate and flamboyant Mardi Gras costumes, graciously on loan from the Mardi Gras Museum of Imperial Calcasieu and some of SWLA Krewe’s. Save the date! The Opening Reception is on Wednesday, January 24th, from 6 – 8 PM. This small museum is located on the second floor of an old school that houses a number of various art and theater programs. There are quite a few examples of Mardi Gras costumes. The gentleman who greeted us described the background of Mardi Gras in Lake Charles and checked in with us throughout our self guided tour to address questions. We started our museum in 1997 and opened in 1998. we started with filling one classroon in the Historic Central School building. The building is now used as the Arts and Humanities cultural center.
