After many many tweaks and endless experiments I managed to come up with a very true to the original Mardi Gras wrap. Even the little colour-confettis are slightly pearlexcent, just like the original. I was quite pleased to find a company (Walopus) offering Mardi Gras wrap, as I've been looking to rewrap a snare drum in that cool finish, so I ordered a 6x14 sheet from them. It arrived the other day and I was very disappointed. It is NOT the Mardi Gras Sparkle like I was expecting, but rather Per the Rogers catalog from drum archive.com, the finish in the 50s was called Sparkling Mardi Gras Pearl. This is characterized by dense areas of small foil bits, making the hue look gold spark-lish. Below is my 13” Eagle Badge tom and a couple of pages from the 57 catalogue, (Maxwell has this starting in 58.). The Mardi Gras wrap that someone hear organized to be manufactured from one of the wrap companies to make about 5-8 years ago. I believe each person paid the manufacturer individually tho. I have 3 or 4 sheets still rolled up in the hard cardboard shipping container. Does anyone remember what we Dont forget Fiesta Pearl (White Mardi Gras). Slingerland drum wraps were always more avant garde than the other three biggies. As much as I love these unusual wraps and the Veil wraps, from more than a few feet away, no one can tell that there is anything unusual about the wrap. Sometimes, it even looks like there is dirt on a solid color. I think the original $160 per sheet was very fair considering the short run of 20 sheets. And, like the above post, I'm not going to pay more than double to get any more MG wrap. I'm very happy with my one display snare drum in MG. I shared the cost with 3 other DFO members for one sheet.-Mark True. I didn't mean to imply it was unfair either. BTW the Green Pearl Wrap that is on eBay is not correct and the seller even uses a picture in his ad he stole of Mark Cooper's snare drum as an example and that drum has original wrap not the repop stuff the guy is trying to sell .
