These two lifelong residents of Galveston Island will be honored at an awards ceremony on Friday, February 21, 5:30 PM, as part of the kick-off to Mardi Gras festivities. Runners dawning Mardi Gras themed t-shirts, socks and jester hats will “jaunt” through the Entertainment District Saturday morning for a 5k Fun Run that ends with free libations and a balcony party! 10:00 p.m. Mardi Gras! Galveston Parade Revelers will enjoy this festive night parade, as it circles the Entertainment District wrapping up the first day of celebrations for Mardi Gras! Galveston, 2025. A group of 9 Festive Floats will be throwing beads and trinkets, plus more marching bands & dancers bringing the hype. — The Jolly Jester Jaunt Galveston 5k. This Mardi Gras-themed run through Galveston's Entertainment District features joker hats and crazy socks. The race ends with free drinks and a balcony party. Mardi Gras! Galveston is the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the country and has a long history of festivities. The first celebration in Galveston was held in 1867, complete with a masked ball and Shakespearean reenactments! In 1871, two rival Mardi Gras societies, or “Krewes” were created. Joker hats and crazy socks are worn during this Mardi Gras-themed run through Galveston’s Entertainment District. Free beverages and a balcony party are held after the race. Mystic Krewe of Aquarius Parade at Noon. This krewe is the second-oldest Mardi Gras social group in Galveston, having been established in March 1985. The island’s 114th Mardi Gras celebration, to be held February 21 thru March 4, 2025 is expected to draw more than 350,000 attendees for live concerts, parades, balcony parties, elegant balls and much more.
