For a quarter of a century, Dayenu, Sydney’s Jewish LGBTQIA+ social and support group, has stood as a beacon of love, inclusion, and resilience within the Jewish community. In marking its 25th anniversary, Dayenu took to the streets once again, proudly marching in the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade, a celebration of pride, diversity, and unity. “How are members of the Jewish community expected to feel welcome and safe to march in Sydney Mardi Gras 2024, as they have done for many years?” McCrossin added that the Sydney Mardi Gras failed to mention the persecution of gay people within Gaza and the West Bank, who flee to Israel seeking asylum. [1] [2] In 2013 Dayenu celebrated its bar mitzvah as it turned 13 Dayenu was founded in 1999 as a coalition of local lesbian and gay Jewish groups, in order to enter a float in the 2000 Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras.
