Galveston now hosts the third largest Mardi Gras celebration in the country, with the weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday making for one of the liveliest seasons, bringing fun and festivity to the island. The Texas A&M Mardi Gras Parade Viewing Party, established in 2015, is built from Mitchell’s legacy. Mardi Gras is a movable date which may fall as early as February 3rd or as late as March 9th. Galveston’s long heritage of celebrating Mardi Gras dates back to 1867, when a 350 pound justice of the peace presided over dramatic entertainment and a masked ball. Proceeds from the 2023 A&M Mardi Gras Parade Viewing Party are directed to the George P. Mitchell Society and the endowment of student scholarships making a difference in the lives of students struggling to afford the cost of attaining a college degree. Accessible Parade Viewing Area.
