Mardi Gras is a centuries-old tradition that originated in Europe, while St. Patrick’s Day is a relatively new holiday that was originally celebrated only in Ireland. In recent years, however, St. Patrick’s Day has become increasingly popular in the United States, to the point where it is now widely considered to be a more important holiday than Mardi Gras.
