The Mardi Gras is considered a large size ship. Coming in at 1,130 feet long and 137 feet wide, it's roughly the length of 3.1 football fields, as wide as 2.6 tractor-trailers and the same height as a 17-story building. Compared to the Royal Caribbean Oasis of the Seas, the Mardi Gras is 20% smaller in terms of overall tons. It was renovated in 2024. Oasis of the Seas was Amplified in 2019 which added many new features, restaurants, and attractions to this ship. It's 12 years older than the Mardi Gras, which was built in 2021. The Mardi Gras pays homage to Carnival's first ship, also named the Mardi Gras. Oasis was by far not my favorite cruise, but the ship was a marvel of ingenuity, we will try the Mardi Gras and see if the largeness will bring the same result for us as well. Op, no one knows what the Mardi Gras will even be like yet, so until specific details come out, you will have to base your decision on the known (Oasis) and the unknown. The itinerary of Mardi Gras is more appealing to me. Mardi Gras is a significantly newer vessel than Oasis of the Seas. Never sailed on Oasis of the Seas, but, I would expect, especially for Mardi Gras' first season, Carnival Cruise Lines will go "all out" to make their guests cruise experience the absolute best that it can possibly be. You compare Oasis class to any other class of ship on really any other line and, yes, the passenger count goes up but the amount of space goes up even more. I saw the ship size, which is significantly smaller than the oasis class of Royal Caribbean and yet, the passenger capacity is about the same. Now my question to those, who have sailed on both classes of ships: Is the Celebration/Mardi Gras very cramped? I did like the glass door shower compared to the previous curtain on older Carnival ships, but the bathroom was very narrow on Mardi Gras. Crowds: I think crowd management was better on Oasis vs Mardi Gras. It seemed like every spot of open deck space on Mardi Gras had a bar in it, which limited space and made it difficult to relax. The Mardi Gras/Celebration/Jubilee will have more, and better, fast-casual food options (breakfast and lunch). Guy's Burgers and Shaq's Big Chicken are amazing. Dinner in the main dining room honestly never felt too different to me between the lines (both can have hits and misses depending on the night/sailing). The Excel-class for Carnival and Oasis-class for Royal Caribbean have everything you could hope for in a cruise vacation: tons of activities, fun for all ages and a wide selection of dining, bars and entertainment onboard. Both the Excel-class and Oasis-class represent the biggest cruise ships from both Carnival Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean. My husband really wants to try one of the giant mega ships. We were thinking of doing a Royal Caribbean Oasis class cruise next spring, even though I'm platinum on Carnival and would prefer to sail with priority! When I try to compare stats, the Oasis class ships have more tonnage but about the s It depends which Oasis class ship I would think, pretty sure Madri Gras is new and pretty huge so would probably be better than Oasis or Allure (I think those are the oldest and non-amped ones, respectively) but Wonder, the newest, is probably better than MG The Royal Caribbean Utopia of the Seas is a fairly new ship, being built in 2024. Comparison Overview The attractions, restaurants, prefered quieter areas to avoid crowds, etc I won't say it was better than the Oasis ships, but my family had a great time overall. As for the passengers, I didn't have issues of trashy passengers. Did feel Mardi Gras passengers were a lot more out going, but didn't feel they were more obnoxious than RC passengers. Comparatively, Mardi Gras has 20+ complimentary eateries onboard - and they’re all pretty dang delicious. We ran out of time to try every option onboard, although we did try our best. Mardi Gras has Carnival’s signature dining options, such as Guy Fieri’s restaurants Guy’s Burger Joint and Pig & Anchor BBQ Smokehouse. I've sailed all the Oasis class, and visited Mardi Gras twice (but haven't sailed her yet). Maybe it's b/c of how much I've sailed Oasis class, but Mardi Gras is more exciting to me. I love the "many small venues vs a few large ones" approach. Lots of variety, really innovative design, and Carnival definitely doing some very different things. I normal sail on RCCL I sailed on Mardi Gras last week. It was only my second Carnival cruise. I didn't care for Magic, but I enjoyed Mardi Gras. I haven't sailed on Harmony but I have sailed on other Oasis Class ships. If the price is similar I would go with Harmony. But I wouldn't hesitate to book Mardi Gras again.
