The Krewe of Roux Mardi Gras Ball is set for Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022! The Krewe is one of UL Lafayette's longstanding traditions, a deep connection between the University, Lafayette, and Acadiana's proud Cajun and Creole roots. This year's event is a bit different, but we're still having fun! The University Program Council at UL Lafayette is adding a Krewe of Roux ball to go along with its parade, a Mardi Gras tradition for more than 25 years. The UPC will host its first Krewe of Roux Mardi Gras Ball for UL Lafayette students on Thursday, Feb. 12. The semiformal event will begin at 8 p.m. at the Cajundome Convention Center. Mardi Gras Ball Date: Saturday, March 1, 2025 Catering Pre-Order Deadline: February 21, 2025. The Krewe of Triton was founded and held its first annual Tableau and Ball in 1980. The initial philosophy of the Krewe was to create a "working man's krewe" that welcomed all who wanted to enjoy the fun and merriment of Mardi Gras. The Mardi Gras parade, a key fundraiser for student athletes at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, showcases vibrant floats and performances. LAFAYETTE PARISH — Lafayette’s streets were Krewe of Roux is the University's kick-off to the Mardi Gras season. Every year, Ragin' Cajuns participate in a masquerade ball and parade that travels through campus. Following the parade, the king and queen are selected by who finds the plastic baby in king cakes. There are a lot of University traditions and events, such as the annual Ragin' Roar pep rally, Krewe of Roux (our own University Mardi Gras krewe), and Lagniappe Day, which includes canoe races in Cypress Lake and a campus-wide crawfish boil. The next UL Lafayette Krewe de Coulee will be the Thursday after Mardi Gras in 2025 at the Blackham Coliseum. The UL Lafayette Krewe de Coulee is an annual post Mardi Gras clean-up event to promote community volunteerism to clean up litter left behind after Mardi Gras celebrations along the Lafayette Parade Route. An accessible Mardi Gras Parade Zone will be available at Fire Station #5 (Johnston St. & St. Julien St.) Prohibited Items on the Parade Route. The following items are prohibited along the parade route: Snaps, pops, cracker balls, and similar noise-making devices; Silly string; Animals (except service animals) Whips; Glass containers Mardi Gras is meant to be a time of celebration—filled with parades, king cakes, and good times for all. Whether it's the big-city spectacle of New Orleans, the family-friendly atmosphere of Acadiana, or the deep-rooted traditions of Cajun Country, the main goal is always to pass a good time.
