Better yet, get rid of the name jazz altogether because it's a horrible name for a dumbass team in a city that couldn't possibly be less synonymous with jazz. I agree. The Utah Mardi Gras would work much better. Purple has been embedded in the Jazz color palette since its inception in 1974 when the team played out of New Orleans. One of the three original colors of Mardi Gras, purple is what stuck around Surprisingly enough, there's currently no team in the NBA rocking Yellow and Black as its colors. As much as I like the Mardi Gras colors, the primary use of blue and white is far from original, I don't mind the Jazz taking the opportunity to capitalize that and claim one of the most iconic color combos before another team does. Blue/Green/Gold/White are the official colors. Basically mardi gras colors but with blue instead of purple. City jerseys are supposed to be whatever the fuck you want, so they chose southern utah desert. The first “Classic Edition” jersey revealed by Nike and the Jazz was a throwback purple “Jazz Note” jersey. During the mid-1980s the Jazz introduced an updated Mardi Gras colored jersey with the addition of the word “Utah” on top of the team’s logo. I mean Utah is just not a party state. I never saw a single person celebrate Mardi Gras in the decade+ I lived there, and I don't understand the appeal of acting like it's part of the state's culture. The city look or mountain range is definitely more Utah, but I don't understand the appeal of the mardi gras colors. But, believe me, they exist!
